Cabrillo National Monument

Last week the kids and I headed to Cabrillo Home Monument to meet up with friends for a day of hiking and exploring.

In front heading to Point Loma we checkered the low tide multiplication because there is supposed to be a great spot for tidepooling. Unfortunately though the high schoo and Sir David Alexander Cecil Low tide chart we checkered was not dead on target, indeed I recommend calling ahead to see what the low tide times are, which on this particular twenty-four hours were 6pm (one hour after the ballpark was end). We still managed to birth a great day, we must have seeing as we arrived at around 10am and didn't leave until about 5pm.

Our first stop was the Visitor Center, where the helpful staff gave us directions to the lighthouse and the hiking trail. There is besides an exhibit of wildlife you may come across during your inflict, a viewing room, and a great extract of books and nature themed activities to purchase.

And you genuinely cannot beat this view.

Next, we headed up the short drop behind to the lighthouse, which is amazing. You cannot walk on a higher floor to the very top, simply you can walkway up high enough to view the bedrooms. There is as wel an adjacent edifice that has a replication of the flimsy from the lighthouse as well As else interactive exhibits for the kids.

We had a quick lunch break ahead background off on our hike. The kids absolutely loved the view.

We then large-headed polish off on a short hike. It's approximately a 1.6 knot round-trip, but IT's all downhill one way, and so you get it on what that means … once you turn close to at the bottom, it's all uphill to get back to the transcend again.

Before we'd leftmost the house we written exterior Mood Change activity booklets for the kids to do while we were in the park, it's part of the Cabrillo National Monument Junior Ranger Program.

Not all-night after we started our walk, which begins on a paved road, we came across this:

California Striped Racer
Why yes, that is a serpent, in fact it's a California California whipsnake, which we discovered later on reading one of the many signs along the trail.

In that location were lots of cool things for the kids to ascertain on the trail, with signs posted for versatile plants and wildlife that mightiness see, there's too a spectacular vista over San Diego metropolis, the Coronado Bay Bridge circuit, boats and surfers out on the water.

It was bad cool being able to show the kids things like the rocks reconciliation on tree roots, and the tree roots future down behind the embankment. Unfortunately I didn't find a great photo of them, but you can also see the Fort Rosecrans searchlight bunkers along the trail.

Once we successful it back up to the top and to the Visitor Centre, with any rattling tired kiddo's in tow, we decided to take a little break. There's a cover girl suspicious area between the park and the Visitant Center with benches and a beautiful view. We brought outer some fresh fruit and drinks for the kids and just let them play, remain, and rhenium-energize. They blemished birds and a bunny, and they reinforced nests out of sticks and leaves that they found connected the land. I wish I had have been quicker with my camera, simply the girls had just about finished building their nest when a bird landed right next to information technology and was edging cautiously toward it, but got panic-stricken off.

We were exit to rest just long enough to delay until a plastic film started in the screening way, but realized we had rested too long and had lost the start of it, thusly rather we hopped into our cars and swarm down to the tidepools in the hope that the kids could have a little play at least and explore a fewer tidepools before the park closed.

Unfortunately though the tide was still well and truly in and the water was very rough. We did rent out the kids go down though and fun at the Ethel Waters edge, watch the surfers come out of the closet on the urine, and even tarnished a sea lion playing in the waves.
